Scales source and guide for musicians
Dorian b5 is identical with the Dorian except from the flatted fifth. Due to the presence of the diminished fifth interval, which also characterize diminished chords, the scale is sometimes referred to as the Dorian Diminished. It can be seen as a mode of the Harmonic Major Scale. For example, except from the order of notes, D Dorian b5 (D, E, F, G, Ab, B, C) is identical with C Harmonic Major (C, D, E, F, G, Ab, B).
The Dorian b5 are together with Dorian b2 and Dorian #4 altered Dorian scales. It is a seven-note scale and must not be confused with the Dorian add 5.
