Oriental Scales

The Oriental Scale has a Chinese origin (not to be confused with the Chinese Scale, though), and is an octatonic scale (a scale consisting of eight notes). A feature to observe is that the scale is characterized by groups of semitone intervals (see scale formula below).

The Oriental Scale is also the 5th mode of the Double Harmonic Major (Byzantine Scale).
